The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Thursday invoked stage one measures from the Graded Response Action Plan in Delhi-NCR as the air quality index (AQI) dropped into the 'poor' category. The AQI was recorded at 226, officials confirmed.

According to a senior CAQM official, the deteriorating air quality is attributed to unfavourable meteorological conditions. Forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) anticipate that the AQI will remain in the 'poor' category over the next couple of days.

In response, the CAQM's sub-committee took action to implement stage-1 measures of the current GRAP throughout the entire National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect to combat the declining air quality.
