The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will soon launch an initiative to identify and record railway stations, schools, and colleges in the city that have stood for more than a century, officials confirmed. This massive documentation effort involves all 12 MCD zones, with each deputy commissioner responsible for compiling details on these historic sites.
The endeavor aims to preserve vital information about Delhi's enduring public buildings, such as the 1903 Old Delhi Railway Station, the Anglo-Arabic Senior Secondary School at Ajmeri Gate, and the 1916 Tibbia College in Karol Bagh. These institutions continue to operate despite the city's rapid urbanization.
An MCD official highlighted the importance of this project, saying it will help maintain an updated record of these sites. The database will include crucial details like the building's name, age, ownership status, and current condition. The Archaeological Survey of India will assist in this important exercise, which follows a directive from February. Further updates on the project's timeline and scope are anticipated.
