In a significant move to enhance emergency healthcare services for senior citizens, the Delhi Government is set to introduce a fleet of 20 advanced geriatric ambulances. These vehicles are designed to cater to the unique medical needs of the elderly, featuring modern medical equipment to ensure quick response times and improved pre-hospital care in the city.
The Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) currently operates 331 ambulances, coordinated through a central control room linked to the 112 Emergency Response Support System. With the addition of the geriatric ambulances, the fleet will expand to 351 vehicles, marking a substantial boost in Delhi's emergency response capabilities. According to official plans, this fleet will eventually grow to 1,000 as part of a broader initiative to construct a more resilient emergency response network.
This development is part of the Delhi Government's ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility, supported by an allocation of Rs 13,034 crore. Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized the government’s dedication to inclusive healthcare, mentioning upcoming hospital infrastructure projects and upgrades to critical care facilities, which are intended to support CATS and other emergency services. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, these efforts strive to create a healthcare system that is both inclusive and responsive to the city's growing needs, with particular attention to elder care.
