Cyclone 'Montha' is gaining strength, poised to become a severe cyclonic storm threatening Andhra Pradesh's coastal areas. Prakhar Jain, the Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, confirmed the cyclone's initiation this week.
Residents in coastal districts have already begun experiencing rain and strong gales. The cyclone's trajectory suggests it will further intensify as it approaches landfall, with movement recorded at 18 km/hr over the past six hours. Currently positioned about 560 km off the Visakhapatnam coast, it is expected to evolve into a severe storm by Tuesday morning.
The cyclone is anticipated to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada on the evening or night of October 28. Authorities have urged coastal inhabitants to remain alert and heed safety advisories to mitigate potential impacts.
