A tragic fire claimed the lives of four people in a Navi Mumbai residential building shortly after midnight on Tuesday. The victims included a six-year-old girl and an 84-year-old bed-ridden woman. The blaze erupted on the 10th floor of Raheja Residency, MGM Complex, Vashi, and quickly spread to upper floors.

Officials suspect a short circuit as the cause, although an investigation is ongoing. Firefighters, numbering 40 with eight fire vehicles, managed to control the flames by 4 a.m. Vedika Sunder Balkrishnan and her parents were among the deceased, alongside Kamala Hiralal Jain, who couldn't escape due to being bed-ridden.

Injured residents faced suffocation and were rushed to two hospitals; most were discharged later. A dozen inhabitants were rescued by firefighters. Navi Mumbai's Disaster Management Cell and police are conducting further inquiries with a case registered at the Vashi station.
