The Congress has filed a summary response to the Election Commission's (EC) notice sent to party chief Mallikarjun Kharge over his 'terrorist' remark. The party contends that the notice smacks of ulterior motives and denies any breach of the model code of conduct or the law.
In a communication to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Congress's communication head Jairam Ramesh expressed concerns about duplicate notices and the removal of TMC's Derek O'Brien as complainant in subsequent versions. This, Ramesh argues, underscores procedural lapses by the Commission.
Criticizing the 24-hour deadline for Kharge to respond, Ramesh noted that the Congress President is engaged in multiple campaigns. The party has sought additional time for a full response and a meeting with senior Congress leaders to present their case.
