Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha asserted on Thursday that the results of the Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections were not a major setback for the BJP, despite a defeat, as they managed to double their voteshare. The Tipra Motha Party emerged victorious, claiming 24 out of 28 seats.
Saha noted the BJP increased its vote share from 18.72% in 2021 to 28.95% in 2026, contesting without regional alliances. This marked the first time in the northeastern state's history that a national party participated in the tribal council elections independently.
In response to opposition criticisms over post-poll violence relief, Saha defended the allocation of Rs 64.50 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, describing the violence as premeditated. He emphasized the BJP's efforts to engage with tribal communities, despite not securing full electoral trust this time.
