W Chhuanawma, the senior vice president of the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and a key figure in the party, has stepped back from his role. He has cited persistent health issues as the reason for requesting leave from the party position, a decision he had been contemplating for a year.
This development coincides with the party leadership temporarily shifting presidential responsibilities to Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The change is due to the current president Lalliansawta taking an indefinite health leave. Chhuanawma, who has also served as deputy chief whip, is stepping back post-Aizawl Municipal Corporation polls.
The ZPM, which emerged as a dominant force in the last assembly polls, will hold an executive meeting to deliberate on whether to appoint a successor for Chhuanawma. Party officials are poised to make strategic decisions as the political landscape shifts.
