The safety of the Puri Jagannath temple's Ratna Bhandar has become a flashpoint in Odisha's political scene. The ruling BJP accuses the BJD of forging keys to the treasury after the originals were lost, while the opposition counters that the BJP is exploiting the temple issue for electoral gain.
Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan claims the previous government fabricated keys following the disappearance of the original, which failed to open the locks during an inventory check. In response, senior BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das labels the controversy electoral manipulation by the BJP ahead of upcoming elections.
The ongoing inventory exercises, carried out in the presence of authorities, aim to confirm the safety of the temple ornaments, which are integral to the Odia identity. Allegations and counterclaims continue as both parties vie for voter confidence, keeping the temple's treasures at the heart of the political storm.
