The state of Tamil Nadu witnessed a significant voter turnout with 70% of the electorate casting their votes in the elections for 234 assembly constituencies. As the Election Commission of India figures indicated, Salem district led the charge with a 75.79% turnout by 3 pm.
Major cities like Chennai and Madurai reported 68.13% and 67.15% voter participation, respectively. DMK President and Chief Minister M K Stalin is contesting from Kolathur Assembly constituency, which saw a 70.24% turnout till 3 pm, amid keen interest from both political supporters and observers.
The political scenario was further heated with Deputy CM Udhayanidhi and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami also on the ballot. Notably, in the Salem district's Edappadi constituency, the turnout was marked at 75.84%, with independent candidates, such as those supported by actors like Vijay, adding to the election drama.
