Tensions escalated in Kataria village when Samajwadi Party workers were targeted in a stone-pelting incident, leading to the arrest of ten individuals. The violent clash unfolded as party members visited the family of a deceased girl whose body was found in the Ganga River three days earlier.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav blamed "power-protected dominant elements" and the village head for the assault, which he described as an attack on the "PDA," his coined term for 'Pichhda, Dalit, Alpasankhyak'. The district administration had advised the SP against the visit, citing dissatisfaction among the grieving family and villagers over the attention surrounding the incident.

The situation is now stable, with a substantial police presence in the area. Legal proceedings are ongoing following the arrests made based on CCTV evidence. The death of the girl has been classified as a murder, and investigations suggest drowning as the cause, with indications of a potential suicide linked to a prior relationship with the accused.
