On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi's planned rallies in Kolkata and Serampore were rescheduled for April 25 after initially being cancelled due to lack of police permission. Congress announced the new dates following police clearance.
The rallies, set to take place at Shahid Minar Maidan and Serampore, had been postponed after being denied clearance for the original date, April 23. Party officials allege the ruling Trinamool Congress influenced the police's initial decision.
State Congress chief Subhankar Sarkar suggested both TMC and BJP felt threatened by the crowd turnout at Gandhi's recent rallies. The West Bengal assembly elections are scheduled for April 23 and April 29, with vote counting on May 4.
