Engie CEO Takes Bold Step Against Le Pen's Energy Policies
Engie CEO Catherine MacGregor attended a dinner with Marine Le Pen to influence her party's energy policies, which MacGregor deems detrimental to France. Traditionally avoiding engagement with Le Pen's party, major French companies now interact with its agenda due to its rising political influence.
Engie Chief Executive Catherine MacGregor revealed that she participated in a dinner with far-right leader Marine Le Pen in March, aiming to sway the party's energy policy. MacGregor argued that the National Rally's current stance is harmful to France's interests, particularly regarding energy security and decarbonization efforts.
In contrast to past practices of shying away from engagement, prominent French companies are now making efforts to connect with Le Pen's party. This shift comes in light of polls predicting its potential victory in the 2027 election.
MacGregor noted that her position as head of energy giant Engie influenced her decision to attend, acknowledging that she might have abstained if leading a different industry. The meeting was previously reported by Reuters.
