Amit Shah Rebukes Opposition Over Women's Reservation Bill

In a heated parliamentary session on Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah lashed out at opposition parties for their inconsistent stance on the government's legislative push to reserve seats for women in the Lok Sabha elections slated for 2029. He accused the opposition, particularly the INDI alliance, of employing conditional support, characterized by 'if' and 'but' statements, to the trio of bills introduced to enact the policy.

Shah argued resolutely that opposing the delimitation process effectively hinders the enhancement of SC/ST representation within the lower house. Responding to extensive discussions in the Lok Sabha, Shah insisted that the essence of these legislative proposals is to constitutionally enforce the one person, one vote, one value principle, ensuring electoral justice and gender parity from the next major election cycle.

Addressing apprehensions of disproportionate regional influence shifts, particularly in Southern states, Shah assured members of balanced representation. He presented precise figures illustrating expected increases in MP allocation across various regions, refuting claims of regional disadvantage due to systematic changes mandated by the bills.
