Debate Intensifies Over Women's Quota Law Amendments

In a fervent debate, Congress leader K C Venugopal asserted the withdrawal of proposed changes to the women's quota law, urging an all-party discussion to devise ways for its implementation. During the Lok Sabha discussion on multiple bills, including the Women's Reservation Act, 2023 amendments, Venugopal argued that the legislation is not aimed at women's empowerment, but rather political gains. He questioned why the bill's execution was delayed until 2023 and criticized the government for bypassing the issue of delimitation.

Accusations flew as Venugopal challenged the prime minister's motives, suggesting political maneuvering ahead of the 2029 elections. In light of these concerns, he called for amendments that considered all states equally, emphasizing the need for legislation crafted with empathy rather than mere strategy.
