Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday raised concerns over the distribution of new Lok Sabha seats, suggesting a bias by the Central government towards regions dominated by the ruling party. While expressing his support for the Women's Reservation Bill, Mann criticized the lack of consistency in seat allocation across states.
Mann highlighted the uneven increase in seat numbers, citing examples of discrepancies where some states see a substantial jump while others see minimal changes. He connected this to political strategies, insinuating favoritism towards states showing electoral support for the BJP. Mann also mentioned plans for internal discussions on the Delimitation process.
In contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a robust call for the Women's Reservation Bill, emphasizing its importance for the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. Addressing MPs, Modi described this legislative effort as a historical opportunity for women's rights, urging for collective support during a debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill aimed at implementing the reservation.
