The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is currently facing a significant challenge in Parliament as it seeks to pass crucial women's reservation bills that require a two-thirds majority. Despite holding 54% of the Lok Sabha with the support of 293 members, they fall short of the necessary 360 MPs for the bills to pass, unless other parties lend their support or abstain.

In the upper house, the Rajya Sabha, NDA holds 141 members, translating to 58% support. If they are to achieve the requisite two-thirds majority in the Constitution amendment bill vote, they need the backing of at least 163 MPs. Despite the BJP's appeals and efforts to galvanize support across party lines, the opposition remains strong with backing from key parties like Congress and TMC.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the importance of these bills in a passionate plea to the Lok Sabha, extending a 'blank cheque' offer for support. The situation remains tense as parties like the BRS, YSRCP, BJD, and BSP hold crucial votes that could tip the balance in favor of or against the legislation.
