Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday dismissed allegations that the representation of southern states would diminish in the Lok Sabha following the increase to 816 seats with women's reservation and delimitation. He intervened in the Lok Sabha debate to clarify the amendments regarding the women's quota law and the delimitation commission setup.
Shah assured that the number of seats and power percentage in the southern states will rise. For example, Karnataka's Lok Sabha seats will increase from 28 to 42, Andhra Pradesh from 25 to 38, Telangana from 17 to 26, Tamil Nadu from 39 to 59, and Kerala from 20 to 30 seats. He emphasized the growth in both numbers and influence.
Refuting opposition claims of potential government malpractices during delimitation, Shah reiterated that the NDA government has made no alterations to the existing law. He stressed that the proposed delimitation bill mirrors the previous law without changes, maintaining transparency and ensuring a 50% increase over current seats.
