In a recent development, the Haryana Congress has suspended five of its MLAs for allegedly cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha elections. This move comes as a decisive action by the party to maintain discipline and underscore the importance of adhering to organisational norms.
The suspended legislators include Shalli Chaudhary, Renu Bala, Mohammad Illyas, Mohammad Israil, and Jarnail Singh, who, according to Congress, voted against the party's official candidate. This action is based on recommendations from the State Disciplinary Committee and has received backing from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
This disciplinary measure sends a crucial message to Congress members about the repercussions of defying party decisions. Notably, the alleged cross-voting affected Congress' otherwise stable position in the elections, which saw BJP's Sanjay Bhatia securing a comfortable victory with Congress' own candidate facing a tight contest.
