Initially detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following his conviction for plotting a coup in Brazil, his current immigration status is unclear. Bolsonaro's ally confirmed his release.
Alexandre Ramagem, the former head of Brazilian intelligence, has been released in the United States, according to Paulo Figueiredo, an ally of the country's former president Jair Bolsonaro, who resides in the U.S.
Ramagem's name no longer appears on the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official website, which lists detained individuals. Reuters has not verified his current immigration status in the U.S. at this time.
The detention of Ramagem took place on Monday after he fled Brazil in September, following his conviction for participating in a coup plot with Bolsonaro. His release was confirmed by Figueiredo on Wednesday.
