In a recent sharp critique, TMC's Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP of adopting a hypocritical stance on Bengali culture. Speaking at a Bishnupur rally, he condemned the BJP for allegedly desecrating a bust of Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar while suddenly showcasing an affinity for Bengali traditions during elections.
Banerjee highlighted the BJP's attempts to appeal to Bengali voters by flaunting local customs, yet argued these gestures lacked sincerity given the past actions he attributed to them. He further warned against the BJP's alleged intentions to curtail cultural freedoms, such as the consumption of fish and meat, in NDA-ruled states.
Challenging the credibility of BJP's leaders, Banerjee labeled them as 'migratory birds' who only engage with Bengal during elections. He alleged that the BJP exploited the Election Commission to their advantage in previous polls, questioning the impartiality of electoral processes.
