The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party, currently in opposition in Telangana, has declared its support for the Women's Reservation Amendments Bill while opposing any connection to delimitation. K T Rama Rao, the Working President of BRS, highlighted the party's track record of empowering women during its tenure in power.
Under the leadership of K Chandrasekhar Rao, the past BRS government not only supported the Women's Reservation Bill but also ensured policies like 50% reservation for women in local bodies. Furthermore, one-third reservations in market committees were put into practice, showcasing their dedication to gender equity.
The party insists on implementing women's reservation in existing parliamentary and state assembly seats without creating confusion through linkage to seat increases and delimitation. They emphasized following constitutional procedures and warned against moves that disadvantage Southern states, promising protests if necessary.
