On Wednesday, Russia's leading diplomat announced Moscow's willingness to assist Iran with its enriched uranium issue. During a visit to Beijing, he suggested that Russia could adopt several roles, such as converting highly enriched uranium to fuel-grade or storing part of it, provided these actions respect Iran's right to peaceful uranium enrichment.
Under the 2015 agreement, forged between Iran and six world powers, including Russia, Tehran received sanctions relief in exchange for limiting its nuclear activities and allowing greater international oversight. Russia played a crucial role by removing significant quantities of enriched uranium from Iran.
The Kremlin continues to politically support Tehran following the United States' unilateral withdrawal from the agreement during former President Trump's tenure. Russia's ongoing efforts underscore its continued commitment to the diplomatic processes surrounding Iran's nuclear program.
