Unity Over Ambition: Thirumavalavan Withdraws from Election Race

Despite initial plans to run from Kattumannarkoil, Thirumavalavan opted out to counter rumors and support the DMK-led alliance. VCK is fielding Jothimani in his place.

VCK founder Thol Thirumavalavan has stepped back from contesting the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, prioritizing the unity of the DMK alliance. This decision comes days after he declared his candidacy for the Kattumannarkoil seat.
Thirumavalavan dispelled speculations of political maneuvering, stating that his withdrawal counters narratives of a prospective coalition governance role or ambitions to become the Deputy Chief Minister.
He emphasized the significance of the 2026 Assembly elections in battling rising right-wing influence, while VCK will contest eight seats in the forthcoming polls scheduled for April 23.
