The Election Commission has issued a notification to T P Ramakrishnan, LDF convener and candidate from Perambra, seeking an explanation about a recorded campaign message allegedly disseminated by the Left Front. The announcement reportedly claimed that the IUML, a key faction within the Congress-led UDF, was conducting communal campaigns for candidate Thahiliya.
UDF has responded with a formal complaint, calling for an investigation. Ramakrishnan asserts the LDF did not authorize any such statements. The controversy echoes past allegations during the 2024 general election about similar divisive tactics, involving WhatsApp messages mistakenly attributed to UDF.
Both Congress leader V D Satheesan and IUML supremo Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal condemned the allegations, urging meticulous investigation by the EC. Thahiliya, UDF’s candidate, supported the complaint, arguing the accusation points to a premeditated strategy by LDF to sway votes through communal polarization.
