In a move that has ignited a fierce political debate, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari has labeled the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, as 'extremely dangerous.' Tiwari alleges that the bill was introduced by the government without adequate consultation or discussion, serving a concealed agenda.

Additionally, Congress MP Imraan Masood warns that the bill could disproportionately affect Christians and Muslims, raising concerns about its timing ahead of the Kerala elections. Introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25, the bill aims to amend the Foreign Contribution Act, 2010, to enhance transparency, but has met significant opposition.

Fierce criticism came from DMK MP Kanimozhi, who urged the government to 'abandon' the bill, arguing it unjustly targets foreign funding critical to minority support groups. The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance asserts the legislation undermines constitutional guarantees of equality.
