In a significant plea during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, two BJD members urged the government to posthumously honor freedom fighters Biju Patnaik and Bhagwan Birsa Munda with the Bharat Ratna. The notable contributions of these leaders to India's independence struggle were highlighted in passionate speeches.
Muzibulla Khan recounted the selfless dedication of Patnaik, who sold his airline and industries to pursue a political career. He emphasized Patnaik's international recognition upon his death, as three nations lowered their flags in tribute.
Similarly, Niranjan Bishi stressed the impact of Bhagwan Birsa Munda's leadership during the Munda Rebellion against British rule, portraying him as a beacon of resistance for tribal communities. Calls for acknowledgment of their legacies resounded in the parliament.
