BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey issued an unconditional apology regarding his controversial claim linking Biju Patnaik with the CIA during the 1960s Sino-Indian war. Dubey chose Utkal Dibasa, Odisha's foundation day, to retract his statement and celebrated the occasion by honoring the revered leader.
The claim that Biju Patnaik, a former Odisha Chief Minister and freedom fighter, acted as a conduit between Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the CIA sparked condemnation across political spectrums. Dubey faced criticism from within the BJP as well as from Patnaik's supporters nationwide who regard him as a symbol of national pride and Odia identity.
Dubey explained that his comments were misinterpreted and emphasized his respect for Patnaik as an heroic statesman.
