V D Satheesan, the Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly, has accused certain media outlets of disseminating false reports regarding the Congress Party's candidate selection process. These reports, Satheesan alleges, were orchestrated by the CPI(M) to create uncertainty before the April 9 assembly polls.

The reports claimed uncertainty over the candidacies of Congress MPs K Sudhakaran and Adoor Prakash. Despite these claims, Satheesan insisted that the misinformation campaign would not affect Congress's prospects in the election, predicting a win of over 100 seats for the United Democratic Front (UDF).

Discussing the timeline for candidate selection, Satheesan clarified that delays were due to the illness of the screening committee's chairman. He announced that the Congress released an initial list of 55 candidates on March 17, followed by a second list of 37 candidates. Additionally, three former CPI(M) members would contest as independents with Congress support.
