Shanmugam's comments have led to a significant backlash from political leaders and organizations, who have slated his statement as derogatory and demanded corrective measures. Shanmugam later expressed regret, claiming his words were a mistake with no malicious intent. However, political figures, including DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi, criticized the MP, noting a lack of political culture and morality within the AIADMK.
