Congress Unveils Key Candidates for Kerala Assembly Elections

The Congress party has announced its initial roster of candidates for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, planned for April 9. Among the 55 names listed, prominent figures include senior leader Ramesh Chennithala and state unit head Sunny Joseph. The selection process was directed by party president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Key constituencies will see seasoned politicians like Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan and Chandy Oommen, son of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, vying for seats. Also significant are K Muraleedharan, offspring of another ex-chief minister, claiming the Vattiyoorkavu seat, and Ramya Haridas entering the race in Chirayinkeezhu-SC.

This election is critical for the Congress, aspiring to dethrone the LDF coalition that has governed the state for a decade. The central committee finalized these candidate selections in a meeting earlier in the day. Vote counting is scheduled soon after, on May 4.
