On Friday, the Lok Sabha was thrown into turmoil as Opposition MPs vocally demanded answers concerning the reported LPG shortage in India. The uproar interrupted Question Hour, leading Speaker Om Birla to suspend proceedings until noon. Despite pleas for order, opposition members continued their protests, prompting criticism from Birla about the erosion of parliamentary decorum.
The disruptions were part of a larger demonstration against LPG shortages and involved members of the Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties, who also protested outside Parliament. They voiced concerns over Indian citizens stranded in Middle Eastern countries, expressing dissatisfaction with the government's handling of these crises.
Congress MPs accused the government of avoiding a much-needed debate on West Asian affairs, claiming Prime Minister Modi is wary of exposing his foreign policy. The government responded, highlighting increased domestic LPG production and prioritizing supplies to essential sectors.
