In a significant political development, BJP councillor and retired DGP R Sreelekha launched her party’s election campaign in Vattiyoorkavu on Saturday. The move comes amid growing speculation that she might contest the upcoming Assembly election from this key constituency.
Sreelekha, who represents the Sasthamangalam ward in the BJP-led Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, took the first step by painting a lotus symbol on a wall. The event saw participation from other notable figures including Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V V Rajesh and Deputy Mayor Asha Nath G S.
While an official announcement is pending, Sreelekha expressed her readiness to contest, should the party deem it necessary. The constituency is poised for a tough contest, with CPI(M)'s incumbent MLA V K Prasanth and senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan likely opponents.
