Haryana's Rajya Sabha Contenders: A Political Showdown

The battle for two Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana is heating up as both ruling and opposition parties prepare for polling on March 16. With sitting BJP members Kiran Choudhry and Ram Chander Jangra's terms nearing completion, the political scene is rife with speculation on potential candidates.

The Election Commission has scheduled the polls to fill 37 Rajya Sabha seats across ten states, including Haryana. The polling will be held from 9 am to 4 pm, with the counting of votes beginning at 5 pm on the same day. Interested candidates must file their nominations by March 5, followed by scrutiny on March 6, and have until March 9 to withdraw.

In the 90-member Haryana Assembly, the BJP holds a majority with 48 seats, while Congress controls 37, alongside minor parties and independents. Each Rajya Sabha aspirant requires 31 votes. Former minister Kiran Choudhry, once with Congress, now with BJP, is a potential nominee, alongside other prominent figures from both parties. The political maneuvers are set to intensify as the election date approaches.
