In a sharp warning to BJP leaders, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced Wednesday that strict action would be employed under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) if they continue to hinder garbage disposal operations in Bengaluru. Shivakumar highlighted ongoing issues due to BJP MLAs obstructing waste management.
Addressing media at the KPCC office, Shivakumar alluded to potential consequences for those deemed responsible for exacerbating the city's waste crisis, suggesting garbage might be deposited in front of their residences. The statement underscores a dramatic turn in the ongoing political battle over waste management in the region.
Shivakumar accused particular BJP figures, including former minister Aravind Limbavali and Doddaballapura MLA Dheeraj Muniraju, of blackmailing the government for funds while opposing waste disposal in their areas. The Deputy CM also confronted allegations concerning contractors’ threats to halt projects over high commission rates, reaffirming the government's commitment to budgetary constraints.
