The Assam Assembly's budget session commenced turbulently on Monday, with opposition members protesting and disrupting Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya’s speech. The session was filled with opposition slogans and attempts to throw copies of the governor's address.
During the 40-minute address, opposition leaders, led by Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, marched into the Well of the House, voicing dissent against the current regime’s development claims. AIUDF MLAs displayed placards related to a controversial video involving the Chief Minister.
Despite repeated pacification efforts, opposition members continued their protest, squatting on the floor and shouting slogans. Security personnel, including marshals, intervened to maintain order, seizing disruptive placards and booklets. The governor’s speech proceeded with support from treasury benches and emphasized government achievements over five years.
