The contentious issue of women's entry into the Sabarimala temple has reignited political tensions in Kerala. On Sunday, opposition parties called on the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) to clarify its stance as the Supreme Court prepares to review petitions related to its 2018 ruling allowing women of all ages into the shrine.
Leader of the Opposition, V D Satheesan, criticized the LDF government's ambiguity on the matter and pressed for a definitive position ahead of the court proceedings. Meanwhile, CPI(M) leaders assured that the government's standpoint would be presented in court, emphasizing the protection of democratic values and devotees' interests.
The Nair Service Society (NSS) reiterated its firm opposition to altering traditional customs and urged the government to revise its earlier affidavit supporting women's entry. The 2018 Supreme Court verdict lifting the age restriction triggered widespread protests and is revisited as the state anticipates further legal directions.
