Union Minister Pabitra Margherita delivered a scathing critique of the Congress party on Wednesday, accusing them of disrespecting Assamese pride and neglecting the northeastern state. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government for numerous developmental initiatives in Assam.
During a discussion in Parliament, Margherita accused Congress leadership of nearly ceding Assam to Pakistan during partition. Citing historical records, he claimed a 1947 conversation between Lord Mountbatten and then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru implied a willingness to discuss the partition of Assam.
Emphasizing unresolved historical grievances, Margherita applauded Modi for recognizing Assam's contributions. He highlighted land rights granted to 330,000 tea workers and accolades for regional icons like Gopinath Bordoloi and Bhupen Hazarika under Modi's tenure.
