Tensions in Assam's Kokrajhar: Bodo-Adivasi Clashes Lead to Internet Shutdown

Violence erupted in Assam's Kokrajhar district as tensions between the Bodo and Adivasi communities escalated, resulting in one fatality. The conflict intensified when both groups blocked roads and set fires, prompting a deployment of the Rapid Action Force and the suspension of internet services in the area, officials reported.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, communicating from the World Economic Forum in Davos, assured that measures are in place to restore peace. While RAF forces are addressing the unrest locally, internet services have been halted in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts to curb the dissemination of inflammatory material.

Authorities urge the two communities and political leaders to foster cooperation and cease hostilities, as the state government actively seeks to stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation. Meanwhile, law enforcement has intensified its presence to maintain order amid ongoing tensions.
