Nepal's Sports Minister Bablu Gupta has stepped down from his position to run in the general election scheduled for March 5. Gupta, who was part of the cabinet under Prime Minister Sushila Karki, has aligned himself with the Rastriya Swatantra Party and is actively campaigning in Janakpur.
'I have officially announced my candidacy and have emailed my resignation to the Prime Minister,' Gupta stated. He emphasized his commitment to focus entirely on his electoral bid.
Initially appointed on October 26, Gupta's departure marks a significant political move as he represents the GenZ youths. The context for his campaign follows violent protests in September against a ban on social media, which resulted in numerous casualties and the eventual resignation of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli.
