In a significant political development, Pakistan's veteran Pashtun tribal politician, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, has been appointed as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.
The position had been unoccupied since August of the previous year after Omar Ayub Khan from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) faced disqualification following a conviction related to vandalism.
Achakzai, who heads the opposition coalition Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP), was nominated for the role by PTI's imprisoned founder, Imran Khan.
