The Lok Sabha erupted into chaos on Wednesday as opposition women MPs staged a banner-wielding protest against the scheduled reply of Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning the Motion of Thanks on the President's address.
The absence of the Prime Minister set the stage for BJP's P P Chaudhary to be interrupted by the opposition, who protested over the India-US trade deal and former Army Chief M M Naravane's unpublished book. Rahul Gandhi's insistence on discussing the book had previously been opposed by senior ministers.
A later session saw BJP's Nishikant Dubey cast aspersions with references to books on former Prime Ministers, leading to a heated confrontation and eventually, adjournment. Opposition MPs met Speaker Om Birla, expressing discontent over the allowance given to Dubey to speak while the Leader of Opposition faced restrictions.
