The Election Commission's recent announcement of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states has met with skepticism from the Congress party. The opposition party raised concerns about the impartiality and credibility of the commission, particularly referencing past issues with the SIR in Bihar.
Pawan Khera, head of Congress' media and publicity, voiced these concerns in a video message. Khera pointed to the lack of voter additions and the significant number of deletions in Bihar's electoral roll as troubling indicators, questioning the commission's intentions.
Despite these criticisms, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar outlined the timeline for conducting the revision across multiple states, emphasizing its necessity for maintaining accurate electoral records. The revision aims to cover 51 crore voters, with new drafts and final rolls scheduled for December 9 and February 7, respectively.
