Paul Biya Secures Eighth Term as Cameroon President

Paul Biya has secured his eighth presidential term in Cameroon, according to official results announced by the country's Constitutional Council on Monday.

Despite being 92, Biya has maintained an iron grip on power since taking office in 1982, after eliminating the term limit in 2008.

His main challenger, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, attracted large crowds and endorsements after breaking away from Biya's regime, but was unable to unseat the longstanding leader.
