RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari, in a statement on Monday, declared that while his party does not oppose the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, it demands a fair and unbiased process. Tiwari warned against any manipulation or disenfranchisement of citizens through the SIR, highlighting past issues observed in Bihar.
The Election Commission is set to hold a press briefing at 4.15 pm today to outline the details of the nationwide SIR strategy. This follows the October 6 announcement by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding the nationwide voter list revision. Instructions were given to Chief Electoral Officers to complete preparations across States and Union Territories.
Recently, a conference at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management in New Delhi focused on evaluating SIR readiness, culminating in discussions led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners. The meeting involved direct interactions with CEOs from poll-bound states like Assam and West Bengal and addressed their queries.
