U.S. Treasury Cheers Nikkei Milestone

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent marked a significant milestone for Japan's Nikkei share average as it closed above the 50,000 level for the first time. This landmark event took place during Bessent's meeting with Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama in Tokyo.

"It's an honor to be here on the day it went over 50,000," Bessent expressed to Katayama during their meeting. He congratulated Japan on this achievement, reminiscing about his previous visits and financial ventures, particularly his profitable bets against the yen in the 2010s.

Bessent's visit to Japan is part of a larger Asia tour involving top U.S. officials, orchestrated by President Donald Trump. This meeting also marked the first in-person interaction between Bessent and Katayama since her recent appointment as finance minister.
