The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the Congress for their commemoration of former party president Sitaram Kesri on his death anniversary. Allegations arose that the Congress, led by figures such as Rahul Gandhi, was merely pretending to respect Kesri to influence voters ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
Rahul Gandhi, along with other Congress leaders, paid homage to Kesri at the party's headquarters, a symbolic site where Kesri was removed from his presidential role in favor of Sonia Gandhi back in 1998. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla argued that the gesture was insincere, given the historical treatment of Kesri by the Congress party.
Poonawalla's statements extended to accusing Rahul Gandhi of holding biases against Biharis and OBCs, challenging him to address recent derogatory comments and political tensions. The Bihar Assembly elections are imminent, set for early November, with results expected on November 14.
