In a high-stakes political contest, 81 nominations have been deemed valid by the Election Commission for the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll, officials announced on Thursday. The scrutiny process also saw 130 nominations rejected, part of a larger pool of 321 total filings from 211 candidates.
The bypoll, schedule set from November 11 to November 14, follows the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. Political heavyweights in the fray include V Naveen Yadav from Congress, Maganti Sunitha representing BRS, and BJP’s Lankala Deepak Reddy. AIMIM expressed its backing for Yadav.
Significant measures by the Election Commission are set to enhance transparency and reduce malpractice risks. These include candidate photographs on EVMs, AI-driven surveillance, and GPS monitoring of sensitive polling stations.
