Devyani Rana, a young entrepreneur, is making her political debut by contesting the Nagrota bypoll in Jammu and Kashmir. She aims to continue her late father Devender Singh Rana's legacy, a respected BJP leader, by focusing on inclusive and transformative development in the constituency.
Devyani, an economics graduate from the University of California, manages her family's media and automobile businesses. She has a strong public support base, driven by goodwill towards her father's legacy as a bridge between Hindu and Muslim communities. The bypoll, necessitated by her father's demise, is slated for November 11 and includes two other major contenders: Shamim Begum from the National Conference, and Harsh Dev Singh, a senior lawyer and former education minister from the J-K National Panthers Party.
Despite being new to politics, Devyani is committed to delivering a fresh, participatory approach, promising to strengthen villages and ensure growth for all societal sections. Her election campaign emphasizes the personal promise to her father and the people of Nagrota, as she seeks to transform the constituency into a model of development.
