Delhi's Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of unjustly blaming Diwali for the city's worsening pollution levels. Sirsa alleges that AAP's narrative is strategically designed to win favor with a specific voter base by advocating for a ban on Diwali traditions like diyas and crackers.
Amid rising tensions over pollution in Delhi, Sirsa highlights the current Air Quality Index (AQI) statistics. On Diwali's eve, the AQI was 345, which increased to 356 post-celebrations. The minister contrasted these figures with previous years under AAP's leadership, arguing that the recent rise is minimal compared to other pollution sources like stubble burning.
Sirsa criticized AAP's fixation on Diwali as dishonest, asserting that their focus ignores broader, systemic issues. He also dismissed claims of data manipulation, demanding transparency and the use of public information from credible sources like the Central Pollution Control Board. The ongoing political blame game emphasizes the challenge of addressing pollution effectively in the capital.
